Class 3E - Kingfisher

Welcome to Kingfisher Class Page Mrs Ebsworth

Welcome to Year 3!

Autumn Term:

We have an exciting Autumn Term ahead in Year 3! Our History topic will be The Stone Age, where the children will discover what life was like for Britain’s earliest settlers. This links closely with our English learning, as we will be using The Stone Age Boy to inspire some fantastic writing. The children will create detailed setting and character descriptions before planning and writing their own versions of the story. In Maths, we will begin by developing our understanding of Place Value before moving on to Addition and Subtraction. Later in the term, we will explore Multiplication and Division, building confidence with times tables and problem-solving. We are also very excited to begin our French journey, learning to read, write and speak French through fun and engaging activities. It promises to be a busy and enjoyable term filled with lots of new learning and opportunities for the children to shine!

Homework and Reading

Homework is set each week on Maths shed and Spelling shed. They children also have access to Times Table Rockstars to practice their times tables. All children have log in details for these in the front of their reading journals. These homework tasks are online and mark automatically, but teachers regularly check this data and monitor it. Homework is set on a Thursday and spellings will be assessed on Wednesdays.

PE

Outdoor PE is on a Monday and indoor PE is on Friday. Please send your child to school in their PE kit. Children must not wear earrings.

Times Table Rockstars

GARAGE – times tables set by the teacher

JAMMING – choose your own times tables to practice. You are able to select multiplication, division or a mixture of both. You can also choose the number of questions to answer.

STUDIO – general practise to improve your ‘Rock Status’. It will also give you your average speed.

SOUNDCHECK – this activity will give the children 6 seconds to answer a random set of 25 questions. This is the speed they will need once they get to Year 4 so they may not be ready for this speed just yet.
