In Maths we will be recapping on our understanding of place value, column addition and column subtraction, multiplication and division of 2 and 3 digit numbers by a single digit, inverse operations and using reasoning to explain how an answer was reached (and to spot and correct any mistakes made).
We Will also be covering new work on shape and properties of lines/angles, and finding fractions of shapes and amounts.
In English, we will be continuing work on narrative texts (story writing), writing descriptions and newspaper reports, as well as being increasingly aware of paragraphing and using a wider range of grammar (adverbials, irregular verbs, using conjunctions to greater effect), using and spelling accurately a higher level of vocabulary and a greater emphasis on punctuation (including commas, inverted commas, apostrophes, question marks and exclamation marks).
We will also carry out guided reading/reading comprehension from a range of short stories, and reading aloud to the children from a longer shared class text. This will be Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone for 3P.
We will also carry out regular spelling, punctuation and grammar activities each Monday afternoon, and we now expect year 3 children to have mastered joined handwriting and to be using this in all their work.
