Welcome to Woodville School

Week 6 of Home Learning (11.5.20)

Picture 1

Welcome to week 6 of Home Learning (11.5.20)

You do not have to do these lessons on these particular days but here is a suggested timetable to spread out your lessons for this week. (Try to do as much as you are able, and be sure to vary the subjects if you are finding it hard to do everything. We have tried to provide a mixture of online, pen/paper, and practical lessons to break it up a bit for you).

Try to choose at least one thing per day to try to keep a healthy  mindset - which will make it easier when you do begin to return to school.

Have a great week everyone!

Mon - Maths (LP) - Numbots Challenge (Via your TT Rockstars account) to warm up your maths brain, followed by your MyMaths for this week - Introducing Money.

(No need to take photos as teachers can access both sites to see your scores but you can ‘like’ the post on Facebook to let us know you have had a try)

Mon - English (ST) - See 3T Class page for ‘Stone Trolls’ Talk for Writing Resources

Mon - 3P Final decision on the location for our class ‘Rock Party’

(Our very own Stone Henge 😁)

Mon - This week’s D&T challenge (LP) See photo below and YouTube link beneath photo section. This is primarily a more advanced launcher to progress from last week’s air cannons. If you do not have the materials required, then choose another challenge from the board (all of which use a toilet roll tube). Keep collecting these as there will be more launchers in next week’s D&T challenge (some of which might need a toilet roll tube). Any support needed for the other possible challenges from today’s board, please message Miss. Palmer via a tagged comment on the D&T Facebook post. Thank you and enjoy!

.......................................................................................................................................................................

Tues - Maths (LP) - Money Challenge/game and worksheet (See dated link in resources below)

Tues - Science (LP) - How Fossils are formed and drawing ammonites.

Log in to Discovery Education using your school log in details (email if you need these although they will be in the Facebook group post for this lesson so please look there if you can).

- Search ‘Rocks’ and click on the top result. Click on the videos, quiz and activities to revise what we learnt 2 weeks ago about rocks. Try to beat your previous quiz score.

- Click on Fossils and read about how they are formed. Carry out extra research on other websites if you wish also.

- Make a labelled and illustrated diagram in a style of your choice, to explain how fossils are formed.

- If you have time, you can research ‘Ammonites’ and make some drawings of their beautiful spiral shapes.

Tues - Optional - Take a walk to visit class 3T’s Rock Party at the entrance to the river by the guide hut to see your friends’ artwork (maintaining social distancing and do not touch them please)

..........................................................................................................................................................

Wed - English (ST) - Talk for Writing ‘Stone Trolls’ slides and sheets (See 3T Class page for print out resources)

Wed - PSHE (ST) - Play a game of your choice that makes you happy.

Wed - Optional (LP) - Take an afternoon walk after 1.30pm to see your 3P classmates Rock Party (Social distancing maintained and do not touch/move them please as they are representing our class unity and ‘togetherness in our place’)

........................................................................................................................................

Thurs - Maths (LP) - Money worksheet - Converting Pounds and Pence

Game to have some maths fun - Using a pile of playing cards (with picture cards and tens removed), turn over 2 cards to generate a 2 digit number. Be the first player to say which coins you would need to make that amount.

Eg. Turn over a 7 and a 3 card. Which coins would you need to make 73p?

There are of course many answers here, but the one using the least coins will be the quickest to say so is more likely to win.

(To support this game it would be helpful to have a selection of coins to demonstrate/prove the answer too).

Have fun!

Thurs - Spelling games (LP)

1. Optional Stone Age Wordsearch.

2. Woolly Mammoth prefix game. (‘Mammoth Pub Quiz’)

Can you trap each Mammoth in their own net?

(Match each prefix to a single root word and use all of the nets and mammoth cards).

After the success of our fossils ‘Pub Quiz’, this activity will run in the same way, with answers submitted either as a photograph of your written list or you reading out your list of words (which can be written out by an adult for you to read as long as you did the matching yourself).

Submissions can be made when commenting is opened for this post on Facebook between 2.45 and 3.15pm. Then commenting will be closed and the answers will be put up for you to mark your work.

3. Second half of the ‘Mammoth Quiz’ is the Animal Alphabet game of mammals hunted by prehistoric humans.

NB you can also submit your prehistoric alphabetical animals list and any photos of your hunting and gathering games (See below) during the afternoon from 1pm to 4pm. If you have gathered and hunted well today you will be able to eat dinner tonight! πŸ˜πŸ˜πŸ‘

Thurs pm - History (LP) - Think about/discuss these questions (No need to write the answers).

What did Early Stone Age Man eat? Why didn’t humans hunt dinosaurs? How did he/she hunt? What else did they eat other than meat?

- Play at being a Stone Age person by being a hunter (catching animals to eat) and a gatherer (collecting edible plants to eat).

- Print out the picture/information cards with the plants on, cut them out and hide them in your garden (or inside if you prefer). Also print out the animals which Stone Age humans would have hunted and put them around your garden to find too. (You could use a stick to throw to try to hunt them, or bend historical accuracy just for fun and use your air cannon or catapult 😊).

- The plants and animals that you find will be your Stone Age dinner tonight!

(Therefore an optional activity to ‘Design a three course meal menu for a person from the early Stone Age’.

(Remember that they did not have plates, cutlery or ketchup 😊)).

- Finally, collect up all of the prehistoric animal pictures and match them to the labels listed here and arrange your matching pictures and name labels in alphabetical order to submit as the second part of your Pub Quiz entry.

MAYBE IF YOU DO WELL ON BOTH PARTS OF ‘THE MAMMOTH QUIZ’ YOU MIGHT GET EXTRA HELPINGS OF PREHISTORIC DINNER TONIGHT. πŸ¦•πŸ¦–πŸ¦πŸ…

If you you would rather submit your work by email you are welcome to do so to yearthree@woodville.essex.sch.uk and we will look at the end of the school day. Thank you.

.........................................................................................................................................................

Resources and web links needed this week (added as the week progresses so we can match them to the needs of the children so they are not over/under challenged):

Animal names to match to the images of Stone Age animals hunted by man

Mammoth,        Woolly rhino,         Sabre-toothed cat,       Glyptodon, Dinohyus,        Indricotherium,        Megatherium,       Chalicotherium,

    Andrewsarchus.

You may use google search or any books you have at home to help you match these names to the pictures. Good luck. Remember to stick them in alphabetical order for the Mammoth Quiz (entires as comments to the Mammoth Quiz post from 2.45 to 3/3.15pm today) πŸ‘
