Please click on the weblink in resources, or use the hyperlink shown here:

https://classroom.thenational.academy/lessons/instructions-identifying-and-understanding-the-features-of-a-text

THEN Print out the word document to cut up and re-order (See photo) and re-read the whole text carefully to check it flows (eg you only need the green title once). Then use 8 coloured pencils and follow the task instructions to identify each of the features listed in the bullet points.

          - Science (LP) - Shadows worksheet continued (See last week’s resources, and post photos. Do ‘Task 4 and 5’ if there is any sun (Or just task 5 if you are in school in the keyworker groups or the sun refuses to appear) or complete the investigation and test out different materials to make a new shadow for Peter Pan (See PowerPoint in resources for this option)

Tuesday - Maths (LP) -  Multiply 2 digits by 1 digit

Teaching video https://vimeo.com/415086842  Then worksheet in resources.

 - Geography (ST) - Design a new business/shop for South Woodham Ferrers.

................................................................................................................................................

Wednesday - English (LP) -  Brainstorming and planning ideas for writing your own instructions for how to catch a wild/mythical/magical creature (maybe a wolf, the tooth fairy, or a vampire or even ... a teacher 🤫😀)

- Look at the example text from Monday and chat about what creature you might want to write instructions about catching. Choose one that you know a little about. Maybe think of a creature from a story you know if you are getting stuck.

- Discuss how you might know that the creature is nearby. Think about how you might trap them. (What do they like? How do they behave?)

Write a title and the subheading ‘Introduction’. Think of 3 questions which might show evidence that the creature needs catching.

- Draw your trap, (maybe including a map), with labels, if you have time.

              - Sports Day activities

               - Music (LP) - Prokofiev’s Peter and the Wolf (See resources)

Listen and watch. Draw and label the characters and the instruments which represent them, from the part where they capture the Wolf!

.....................................................................................................................................................

Thursday - English (LP) - Write a full set of instructions for how to trap your creature.

This will involve having:

a title,

an introduction,

then a list of equipment needed,

followed by a numbered list of detailed instructions

(and a warning or additional information if you wish).

Please refer to the slides 1-6 again in the above link, to see the model text (How to Trap the Iron Man). I have also added a vocabulary list word document into the resources below, so that you can start most of your instructions with an adverb (WHEN or HOW to carry out the verb).

In school yesterday we thought of our title and brainstormed ideas. We began to think about (or have finished writing) the introduction and thought about how to tempt the creature into the trap, as well as how the trap might work.

Take a photo when you have completed this lesson and post it to the Facebook group, or send to yearthree@woodville.essex.sch.uk Thank you)

           - Maths (LP) -  Divide 2 digits by 1 digit

Teaching video https://vimeo.com/415087020  Followed by worksheet in resources.

OR if this level of division is too tricky, there are worksheets for x4 and x8 dated Friday 10.7.20.

................................................................................................................................................

Friday -   - PSHE (ST) - What makes a good friend?

Maths (LP) - Revise multiply and divide by 4 and by 8

Teaching video https://vimeo.com/415086682

           -  D&T project (LP) - Cardboard arcade games 🥳

Watch (or re-watch) ‘Caines Arcade’ and the follow up ‘Caine’s Arcade part 2’

Design and make your brilliant arcade game from recycled materials - It would be even better if it also included a set of instructions and/or rules.

            - PE Challenge (ST) - Speed Catch with a twist

English

This week we are following the sequence of lessons which we would use within a week/fortnight in school. Begin with looking at a text as an example (in this case, instruction writing). Find features - An introduction, rhetorical questions, bullet points, numbered instructions which use adverbs at the start, and so on.

Write your own similar text but using your own ideas and vocabulary choices (over several lesson).

Monday 6.7.20 correct order

Thursday 9.7.20 Support resources for writing instructions - How to Trap a ........
