Phonics
In school we use a variety of different activities to ensure that phonics sessions are exciting and interactive. We use Letters and Sounds which gives the structure for phonics sessions and has lots of ideas. We also use Jolly Phonics and Phonicsplay to support our daily phonics session.
Phonics Phases
Autumn and the start of the Spring term
The children work on the sounds in phase 2.
Spring and Summer Terms
During Spring and into Summer term the children work on the sounds in phase 3. Two letter sounds are digraphs and the three letter sounds are called trigraphs. We encourage the children to learn these terms.
These are the high frequency words we are learning to read. We also try to write them if we can, lots of them we can sound out.

If you would like to help your child at home you can ask them to spell words for you using the different sounds.
They could sound out the words to you, write words in lists, make them with magnetic letters, use a bucket of water and a paint brush on the patio in the garden, anything that makes it fun!
