Welcome to Woodville School

Class 4G/B

Summer Term 2021

Welcome back! Our topic this term is World War II. We will be learning about the causes of the conflict and the events that took place. We will focus on what life was like in Britain during this time. Our 'Big Read' will be Goodnight Mr Tom by Michelle Magorian.

In English, we will start by reading and writing instructions, before moving onto a poetry focus.

Our Maths work will focus on division to begin with and then move on to and make links to fractions. It is vital that we continue to learn and rehearse our times tables as knowing these will make such a difference to our understanding of fractions and division.

Our Science starts with learning about Electricity.

Don't forget PE day is now Tuesday. Make sure you come in PE kit on this day. Make sure you have enough water to drink (bring two bottles if needed) and a snack (the morning session is long!)

Return to School!

Thank you for all your hard work during lockdown. We are looking forward to seeing you all again next week! Don't forget your water bottle and your snack - we won't be having lunch before 12:30.  We are returning to school in uniform and our PE day is now Tuesday - so make sure you come to school in your PE kit each Tuesday.

Please don't forget that all homework is set via teams. It will be uploaded on a Wednesday to be handed or 'Turned in' by the following Thursday, Spellings continue to be set in spelling books and are also uploaded onto both here and Teams. Please keep an eye on Teams, as messages are regularly updated.

Welcome to 4BG

Our topic for this term is Woodlands. We will be finding out about different trees and areas of woodland. We will also investigate the impact of deforestation.

For the second half term, we will be exploring and writing poetry and then move on to letter writing. Our Maths work will build on our number and place value work with a focus on addition and subtraction, including formal written methods. We will continue to rehearse all times tables to 12x12. In Science we move on to learning about teeth and digestion.

Don't forget, you only need a very small school bag and pencil case. You must bring a labelled water bottle and a fruit/vegetable snack for break if you want one. Now the weather is colder, please make sure you have a warm, waterproof coat in school everyday so that we can continue to get outside as much as possible.

Our outdoor PE day is WEDNESDAY - Please come into school each week dressed appropriately in your blue T shirt and shorts. You may wear a plain, dark coloured tracksuit over these and trainers are fine. Long hair must be tied back and no jewellery worn.

There will no indoor PE for the time-being.

Please make sure you are reading regularly at home and taking time to discuss what you have read.

You have your own log-ins for MyMaths and ihub, as well as times tables rock stars. After half term we will begin trialing setting homework via Microsoft Teams and this will be our system for home-learning should it be needed.

You can contact any member of the year 4 team on yearfour@woodville.essex.sch.uk

All children should have come home with their log-in information for Teams. Please check that this is working and let us know if you come across any problems. Homework will be set using this, and in the event of our bubble having to isolate or school closures, home learning will also be communicated in this way.
