Global Citizens!

International School and Geography Curriculum Day

We had a great day in school exploring the similarities and differences of England, Dubai and Tanzania. Each year group focused on a specific topic such as clothing, food or weather and each class shared their findings in assembly with lovely posters, PowerPoints and information sheets.

It was also really exciting when we received a newspaper article from the Emirates International School in reply to the one that we sent them. So we have been busy putting together another one to send back to them which tells them all about the things that we have been up to since our first report.

Hello! We are the new Global Citizens.

This half term we have voted for a girl and boy from each junior class to be part of the Global Citizens team. We have helped to set up a new link with the Emirates International School Meadows in Dubai. We have been busy writing a newspaper to send to them which tells them all about us and our school.

Each half term we will be writing to our link schools in Tanzania and Dubai and we will be keeping this page up to date.

Last year we celebrated our link with Mawenzi primary school in Moshi, Tanzania by learning some African music.

In each music lesson Mrs Sharpe has played a variety of African songs and music for the children to listen to and has also taught them how to play the African drums. All the children had great fun!

Welcome to International schools!!

This term we have had a workshop with Paula and Dan from Child Reach International. They spoke to us about the projects they are running in Tanzania including Litre of Light, farming in schools and working with Children with hearing impairments in Tanzania.

We learnt the sign language for part of the song 'Happy' and discussed the issues faced by Deaf pupils in Tanzania. We also compared our school to the schools in Tanzania and discussed children's rights.

At the end of the session we got into 2 teams, the orange team and the blue team and had a quiz to see what we could remember from the session. The blue team won!

We are hoping to Skye with Paula from Child Reach next term when she goes to visit Mawenzi Primary school.

Please look at the photos at the bottom of the page and the newspaper article we created to send to Mawenzi school.
